Lori Wood

Director of Digital Marketing

Every company should have a fairy godmother. As it happens, someone at SmartBox has been nominated for that role.

“On a recent company survey,” Lori says, “I was proclaimed ‘The Fairy Godmother of Digital Marketing.’ I’m really honored that someone sees me that way.”

Our Director of Digital Marketing leads a team that “helps develop digital strategy that leads all SEO, SEM, and Link Building. My primary goal is to build compelling campaigns and continuously optimize performance based on analytics, customer feedback, and market dynamics.”

Lori joined SmartBox in November 2015, and it looks like a perfect fit. “I am an analytics guru,” she proclaims. “Numbers tell the story of how things happen, where they have been, and where they are going. I use analytics every day when I create marketing strategies for our dentists, and they give me the direction I need to make the tough calls so that our dentists don’t have to.”

She holds undergraduate degrees in English and marketing from the University of Maryland University College. Over the course of more than 12 years working in all facets of marketing, she’s emerged as an expert in Google AdWords and Google Analytics and has developed campaigns in digital and event marketing, direct mail, and public relations.

Lori Wood 1jpgWhen she’s not being analytical, she expresses some completely, uh, different aspects of herself. “My family is extremely creative and we enjoy doing creative things. My husband plays music and is currently giving our 7-year-old guitar and drum lessons. I am a writer by nature, and I’ve been published several times. It’s one of my favorite hobbies. We are also nature lovers and spend most, if not all, of our time outdoors in the spring and summer camping. Oh, and my husband and I LOVE Halloween. This year we were Marty McFly and Doc Brown from Back to the Future and won Best Couple at the Halloween party.”

After a brief pause, she adds, “I also have an absolutely filthy mouth and I’m a sassy Southern girl. When I’m angry, the world better watch out because my mouth just can’t stop. At my last job, everyone called me ‘Lemon’ based on Tina Fey’s character on 30 Rock. Apparently, I am quite sarcastic.”

Color us shocked.

However, this team leader is very team-oriented, as you’d expect.

“I am absolutely passionate about fostering teamwork and rewarding success,” she says. “I think everyone deserves the opportunity to LOVE what they do – it makes us better employees, better friends, and better parents to our children when you love what you do and don’t consider it ‘work.’ I love seeing our dentists’ businesses grow and attract more patients.  The icing on the cake is that I work with really great people who all have a passion for what they do and work well together. I enjoy working around smart people and SmartBox is full of them.”

And then comes the place where all her various aspects merge.

“My strongest work attribute,” she says, “is that I understand that I’m a ‘thinker’ and Lori Wood 4brilliant thinkers NEVER stop asking questions. I’m the girl in meetings that gets on everyone’s nerves because I always have 1,000 questions. I also encourage my family to nurture their creativity and their curiosity as there are just so many things in the world to explore and to learn about. I approach life with the idea that things change, and adaptability is one of my very strongest attributes.”

That’s our filthy-mouthed, sassy-Southern-girl, analytical Fairy Godmother of Digital Marketing. We’ve ordered a wand, but she’ll have to get her own tiara. In the meantime, we’ll try to stay on her good side.
